ThusSayethMe.com is operated by Paul Karsten Fauteck, Psy.D., a clinical and forensic psychologist. Dr. Fauteck sees the world from several different perspectives. One is that of a student of human thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and habits. Another is that of a parent and grandparent. A third perspective is through the eyes of someone who has seen the criminal justice system and, to a lesser degree, our political processes from close up. Of course there’s that of an American citizen who believes in the principle of “my country right or wrong,” but who understands the importance of taking that often partially-quoted motto in its entirety: “ . . . when she’s right, to defend the right, and when she’s wrong, to right the wrong.”
We Americans have become skilled at building walls, and we’ve forgotten how to build bridges. The purpose of ThusSayethMe.com is to take down some of the walls:
- Walls that separate Americans from each other and, to a disturbing and increasing degree, from the rest of the world;
- Walls we hide behind instead of facing painful realities;
- The artificial wall between science and religion;
- Walls of slogans and platitudes we often erect because it’s more convenient than honest, open debate.
So ThusSayethMe.com is dedicated to promoting dialogue and reducing polarization. Comments that resort to name-calling and labeling are discouraged, are likely to be deleted. Was it Abraham Lincoln who said that mud thrown is ground lost? There may be an exception to that truth when a society deteriorates into one giant mud wrestling match, in which, ultimately, everyone eats mud and no one gets to stand on firm ground. America has come too close to that already.
